The first official reaction from Beijing has come amid the ongoing tension on the border between India and China. China said on Wednesday that the situation on the China-India border is generally stable at present. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun refused to comment directly on media reports related to increased activities of the Chinese army near the Arunachal Pradesh border.
Recently, a question was asked to China whether there has been any recent military incident on the border with India and whether China has increased its military strength near the area which China claims as part of 'South Tibet' as part of its nefarious claims. To this, Chinese spokesperson Guo gave a diplomatic reply and said, “The situation on the China-India border is generally stable at present.” He also mentioned that both the countries had participated in the 36th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Dialogue and Coordination (WMCC) on China-India border matters only last week. He reiterated that both sides have agreed to maintain constant dialogue through diplomatic and military channels and maintain peace and stability in the border areas.
India had given a strong message
It is noteworthy that this statement of China has come at a time when India had made it clear in very strong words on Tuesday that it takes the matters in the border areas with China very seriously. India had stressed that maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is the biggest priority, because the situation on the border decides the direction of bilateral relations between the two countries. This tension came to light after reports of aggressive actions of Chinese soldiers in Upper Subansiri area of Arunachal Pradesh.
Additionally, New Delhi had strongly criticized DRAGON's absurd efforts to standardize names of 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh. India had bluntly said that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and unbreakable part of the country and no power in the world can ever change this indisputable truth. Amidst the diplomatic and military tension on the border, it is clear from the stand of both the countries that India is completely alert and adamant about its sovereignty.
