Kangana Ranaut immediately responded to this. He shared the video of Sharmila Tagore's interview on his Instagram story and wrote that he was happy that Sharmila ji clarified her objection. However, as an artist he was surprised to find how his approach to art and poetry could be so narrow.

Kangana further said that the words in any poem or song are not just words, rather they are metaphors. The poet creates new pictures from his imagination so that the right feelings can be expressed. In Vande Mataram, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay has talked about making the country aware and awakening the inner strength. It is injustice towards art to consider it only a religious ritual.
He also mentioned Swami Vivekananda, who had said that he wanted youth like iron, with bones of steel and electricity running through their veins. It was not just a prediction of the weather, but a call to awaken power. Kangana said that we should come out of the Hindu-Muslim perspective. Doctors also call the strength of the body as Shakti.
