How to cook chana dal without soaking
If you have forgotten to soak the dal, there is no need to worry. You can also make Puran by cooking chana dal in a pressure cooker without soaking it. This will prepare delicious Puran Poli in less time. Let us know its recipe.
Ingredients to make Puran Poli
– Chana dal (for puran) – 1 cup
Jaggery or sugar – 1 to 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder – half teaspoon
– Nutmeg powder – 1 pinch
– Wheat flour – 2 cups
– Salt – 1 pinch
– Water – as per requirement
– Oil or ghee – 1 to 2 tablespoons
– Ghee for baking – as required
How to make Puran Poli
– First of all wash chana dal thoroughly 2-3 times. No need to soak it, just cook it directly in the pressure cooker. Add water as required to the dal and close the lid of the cooker. Let it melt well. The dal should become soft, but do not add too much water.
– Filter the cooked lentils. There is no need to throw away the remaining water, it can be kept aside and used to knead the dough when required.
Now add cooked chana dal in the pan. Add jaggery or sugar to it and cook on low to medium flame. Keep stirring it continuously so that the dal does not stick to the bottom. When the dal water dries up, add cardamom and nutmeg powder to it.
Cook the mixture until it becomes thick enough to be easily filled into the poli. Turn off the gas and let the puran cool down a bit. When it cools down, mash it well.
– After this prepare the dough. Take wheat flour, add some salt and water as required and knead a soft dough. Apply some oil or ghee to it and keep the dough covered for some time.
– Now take a ball of dough and spread it a little. Place the prepared puran in the center and close the dough all around. Press it gently to make it a little bigger and roll it out using dry flour.
– Heat the pan and put the prepared Puran Poli on it. Apply ghee thoroughly and cook from both the sides. Keep in mind that it should be crispy from both the sides.
– Your instant Puran Poli is ready. After offering it to Bappa, it can be eaten as Prasad with the family.
