Japan, known for its low crime rates and high living standards, has the highest number of repeat foreign visitors in Asia in the first half of this year, according to booking data from online travel platform Agoda.
It was followed by Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Strict laws help keep Japan safe and clean, while tourists are drawn to its rich culture, delicious food, and polite people, according to Agoda.

Japan is widely regarded as one of the world’s most polite nations, shaped by a deep-rooted culture of respect, social harmony and meticulous etiquette. This is reflected in everyday practices such as bowing in greeting, attentive hospitality, and strong public consideration, including maintaining quiet spaces and orderly queuing.
Japan, voted the “world’s most favorite destination” in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, received over 24.5 million tourists in the first seven months of the year, down slightly by 1.7% compared to the same period in 2025.
The country aims to attract 60 million foreign tourists by 2030, up from 42 million in 2025.
