The option of automatic gearbox is now increasing rapidly for customers buying CNG cars. Maruti Suzuki has introduced Dzire CNG with 5-speed AGS i.e. AMT gearbox. This means customers can enjoy the convenience of automatic driving along with the low running costs of CNG.
Given the constant traffic and frequent stop-and-go conditions in cities, the AMT gearbox can prove to be quite convenient. However, the Dzire CNG has to compromise on boot space due to the CNG tank.
City driving becomes easier with 5-speed AMT
Dzire CNG has a 5-speed AGS/AMT gearbox. This setup makes driving easy especially in city traffic. The gear changing process is generally smooth even at low speeds.
Even in CNG mode, the performance of the car is said to be adequate for everyday needs. Due to being AMT, there is no need to repeatedly press the clutch in traffic and change gears manually. This can provide convenience in city driving for long periods of time.
However, a slight pause or lag may be felt during gear shifts at higher speeds on the highway. Despite this, convenience in urban use remains the main feature of the AMT setup.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the mileage of Dzire CNG AMT is 36.4 km/kg. If the mileage in actual use remains around this figure, it could help in keeping fuel expenses low for customers traveling long distances daily.
CNG's generally lower running costs than petrol make it a useful option for buyers who use the car heavily on a daily basis. With this, the problem of manual gearbox is also reduced by getting AMT.
Boot space compromised due to CNG tank
The biggest practical drawback of the Dzire CNG is related to the boot space. In this, the CNG tank has not been installed in the underbody. In such a situation, the useful space of the trunk gets reduced.
If you often have to carry a lot of luggage in the car, then this is worth keeping in mind while making the purchase decision. At the same time, for everyday city use and limited luggage, this setup may not be a big problem.
AMT with CNG in Baleno and Swift also
Maruti Suzuki has not limited the option of automatic in the CNG segment to just Dzire. The company is also offering CNG models of Baleno and Swift with 5-speed AGS/AMT gearbox.
In this way, the company's CNG range now also has an option for those customers who want automatic driving with low running costs. Especially during heavy traffic in cities, AMT gearbox can make driving more convenient.
