Vishwajit More's historic victory in wrestling

Inspirational story of Vishwajeet More

Vishwajeet More: Have you ever wondered how history is written when luck blocks the way? Today we will talk about a brave man who made the impossible possible. Meet Indian Army Havildar and the pride of the country Vishwajeet Ramchandra More, who did what no Indian has been able to do till date in the Under-23 World Wrestling Championship held in Las Vegas!

Vishwajit's father Ramchandra More, a resident of Sarvade village in Kolhapur, supports his family by growing vegetables in the fields. Despite lack of facilities and financial constraints, Vishwajeet's dream was to win a medal for the country. This brave Malla, who is serving the country as a Havildar in the Indian Army, came out of the soil of the arena and went straight to the international mat.

The beginning of this journey was not easy. While 9 Indian wrestlers had to pull out of this big tournament due to not getting American visa, Vishwajit More alone reached America facing every difficulty. His intention was clear – to fight on the mat not just for himself, but for the whole of India!

When Vishwajeet started competing in the 55 kg Greco-Roman category, he shocked the world. Vishwajeet became a 'Giant Killer' by defeating Iran's Under-20 World Champion Armin Shamsipur 8-1 in the quarter-finals! He advanced straight to the final after defeating the Russian wrestler in the semi-finals—the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to do so in the history of the championship!

In the final he faced Koba Karumidze of Georgia. The match lasted till the last second and ended at a very close score of 12-13. Even though he missed the gold, he created history by winning the silver medal, the echo of which will be heard for years!

Vishwajeet, who won a hat-trick of medals in this championship three consecutive times (2024, 2025 and now 2026), is today a source of inspiration for millions of youth of the country. His story teaches us that no matter how adverse the circumstances are, if your courage is strong, you can change history. Our salute to this hero of the country!
