CM Rekha Gupta approves smart LED street light upgrade in Delhi, 96,000 lights will be replaced by Diwali

A big step has been taken towards modernizing the street lighting system in Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the plan to install LED street lights in the capital. The initiative aims to make urban areas safer and modern, ensure better street lighting and reduce power consumption. The government has decided that around 96,000 street lights will be replaced by Diwali. Under this, old high-pressure sodium vapor (HPSV) bulbs and old LED fixtures will be removed and replaced with smart LED systems.

To make this LED street light project more smart, a Central Command and Control Center (CCC) will also be established. Under this initiative of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, this system will do real-time monitoring of all the street lights of the capital. If the lights fail in any area or the power supply is disrupted, the information will be immediately sent to the control centre. With this, officials will not have to wait for public complaints and the process of repair and maintenance can be started faster. Apart from this, this smart system will provide many facilities, such as controlling the brightness of lights remotely, monitoring the performance of each light, reducing and controlling power consumption, improving operational efficiency and maintenance costs.

Under this initiative of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, it is believed that after the implementation of smart LED system, about Rs 25 crore can be saved in electricity bills every year. This system will also ensure more eco-friendly and energy-efficient lighting. The government’s focus is not only on energy savings but also on the safety and better visibility of the city. There is a problem of dark zone in many places in the existing street lighting system, where monitoring and safety is affected due to lack of light. New smart LED systems aim to overcome these problems. This will improve visibility on the roads, make public places safer for women and common citizens, reduce the chances of road accidents at night and make the city’s surveillance system more effective.
