Glasgow: Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas performed brilliantly in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and reached the semi-finals by defeating Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell by a 4-1 split decision in the quarterfinals of the women’s 60 kg category. With this win, Priya has ensured at least a bronze medal for India, as both the losing semi-finalists in the Commonwealth Games boxing event also get bronze medals.
In the match played amidst the support of the host audience, Priya made a brilliant comeback despite falling behind in the initial rounds. In the second and third rounds he demonstrated faster punches, effective counter attacks and better ring control. Four judges scored the fight 28-27 in favor of Priya, while one judge scored it 29-26, giving her the win with a 4-1 split verdict.
Now Priya will face the winner of the quarterfinal between England and Ukraine in the semi-finals. If she wins, she will enter the gold medal match.
