CWG 2026: Lovlina Borgohain’s medal confirmed without playing a single match, got direct entry in semi-finals

CWG 2026 Lovlina Borgohain Bronze Medal Guaranteed: India’s star boxer Lovlina Borgohain has assured herself of a medal in the Commonwealth Games 2026 without even playing her first match. Due to the presence of only five boxers in the women’s 75 kg category, Lovlina has got a direct place in the semi-finals. According to Commonwealth Games boxing rules, players who lose in both semi-finals get bronze medals, so their medal was assured once they reached the last four.

Whatever the result, Lovlina’s medal is certain.

As per the draw, there will be only one quarterfinal match in the women’s 75kg category, in which England’s Mary Kate Smith will face Nigeria’s Patricia Mbatha on July 28. Whereas Lovlina, Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree and Tuvalu’s Tarona Taafaki have got direct entry into the semi-finals. On July 31, Lovlina will face Tarona Tafaki. The winner of this match will reach the final, but whatever the result, Lovlina’s medal is now certain.

This will be the 28-year-old Indian boxer’s first medal in the Commonwealth Games. Earlier in Gold Coast 2018, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing to England’s Sandy Ryan, while in Birmingham 2022 she also lost her first match. In both the editions, he participated in the 69 kg category.
