New Delhi, 25 July 2026: The prevalence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasing day by day, but now its misuse has reached worrying levels. Hackers committing cyber crimes are now using AI tools to carry out large-scale cyber attacks. Recently, a shocking claim has been made by 'Team5', a leading cyber security research firm in Taiwan. According to the report, hacking groups linked to China have more than doubled the number of cyber attacks using 'DeepSeek' and other AI tools. Hackers are taking the help of AI to create advanced malicious software (malware) and make the hacking process faster.
According to Bloomberg's report, Taiwanese firm 'Team5' says that 'DeepSeek' is proving to be especially popular among Chinese hackers. The main reasons behind this are its low cost, strong capabilities and fewer restrictions on requests for cyber security issues compared to Western AI models. According to Charles Lee, chief analyst of 'Team5', AI models from Western countries are also popular among hackers, but they have very strict security rules and restrictions. During the research, scripts and logs made using AI from the operations of hackers associated with the Chinese government were also found.

Different uses of AI at different stages
The report also claims that researchers have identified different uses of AI in the activities of several Chinese hacking groups. A hacking group named Grimfengshi reportedly used DeepSeek to create exploit code. A group named 'Huapi' had targeted the email system of a Taiwanese company with the help of DeepSeek Growth. With the help of AI, a group named 'Teleboyi' had found about 1000 IP addresses available on the Internet and prepared an accurate mapping of the domain of a company. This makes it clear that hackers are now making full use of Artificial Intelligence in every phase of cyber attack from planning to its execution.

ChatGPT and Claude were also misused
Chinese hackers are not limited to just using indigenous or Asian tools, but they have also misused American AI technology. Cyber security company 'Sycraft' has found evidence of use of ChatGPT during the attack on a Western think tank. An attempt was made by hackers to prepare software to decrypt data stolen from an employee's hacked computer with the help of a chatbot.
Additionally, 'Team5' also reported that a group called 'Slime22' had used Anthropic's 'Cloud' code after infiltrating a Taiwanese technology company. However, after this incident, Anthropic company blocked its services for Chinese controlled companies. These types of cyber threats increasing globally show that it is going to be a big and serious challenge for digital security agencies to prevent AI-driven cyber attacks in the future.
