UPI completes 10 years under digital payment revolution

New Delhi, 25 August 2026: Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has completed ten years and has revolutionized the digital payments sector. It has become the backbone of India's digital payment ecosystem. Since its launch on August 25, 2016, the number of UPI transactions has increased approximately 13,000 times.

On the occasion of completion of 10 years of UPI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that every Indian should be proud of this digital revolution of the country. He mentioned that the introduction of the UPI system has been the most important and decisive turning point in the history of digital payments in India.

In a social media post, Modi said that UPI was launched a decade ago and has proved to be the most decisive decision so far in India's digital payments journey. Every Indian should be proud of the vast scope and reach of UPI. He also requested the countrymen to share their experiences with UPI.
