New Delhi: When the challenge of law and order comes to the fore on the streets of the capital, when the crowd is out of control and the soldiers in khaki stand at the front without caring for their lives, then the responsibility of their safety and well-being also falls on the police department. Keeping this sentiment in mind, Delhi Police has announced financial assistance for its brave soldiers who were injured while on duty. Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar has approved the proposal to provide financial assistance to policemen injured while performing various law and order duties during the year 2026.
Rs 25 thousand for serious injuries, Rs 15 thousand for other serious injuries
According to the arrangement issued by Delhi Police, financial assistance of Rs 25,000 will be given to policemen who are seriously injured while on duty. Whereas other soldiers suffering from serious injuries will be provided Rs 15,000. This amount will be made available from the Delhi Police Welfare Society Fund. Apart from this, in cases where more financial assistance is required due to special circumstances, the concerned District Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) will be able to send proposals for increased assistance. That is, considering the need and circumstances, special cases can be considered separately.
More than 250 soldiers were injured in 2026
According to Delhi Police, more than 250 policemen have been injured during various law and order incidents in the year 2026. These soldiers were deployed on different occasions to maintain peace, control the crowd and ensure law and order in sensitive situations. The dedication and devotion to duty of the policemen despite the injuries sustained while on duty is a matter of respect for the department. Recognizing this contribution, the Police Commissioner has approved financial assistance.
'Ahat Veer Samman Patra' was started in 2023
Delhi Police had also institutionally started the system of 'Ahat Veer Samman Patra' in the year 2023 to boost the honor and morale of the injured soldiers. Under this, policemen who get injured while performing duty in riots, protests, arresting criminals and other challenging circumstances are honoured. The aim of this initiative is to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those soldiers who take risks for the safety of civilians.
The department also emphasizes on the welfare of families.
Delhi Police says that the welfare of policemen and their families who get injured while on duty is one of the priorities of the department. The Police Welfare Unit is continuously making such efforts so that the needy soldiers can get timely financial help, support and respect. The new economic assistance scheme is also being considered an important step in this direction.
Giving information in this regard, Delhi Police Public Relations Officer and Additional Police Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan said that it is the responsibility of the department to honor the dedication, sacrifice and devotion to duty of the policemen. The department stands with its soldiers who do not back down even in difficult situations to protect others. The message is clear – Khaki not only guards the law, but also fulfills the responsibility of honor and safety of its brave soldiers.
