A tragic incident has taken place at the famous Diveagar beach in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Eight students who had come for a picnic drowned at Raigad’s Diveagar beach. Police said that all the bodies have been recovered. According to the information, these eight students came to Diveagar from Alandi in Pune. The students went to the sea to swim, but they all drowned because they could not estimate the depth of the water. With the help of local people, the bodies of the eight students were recovered from the sea.
In fact, a private coaching class organized a trip to Diveagar. A group of ‘Winners’ private coaching class from Alandi area of Pune came for a trip to Diveagar. Some students went into the water to enjoy the sea but due to not estimating the depth of the water, eight of them drowned. The bodies were recovered thanks to the promptness of a local water sports owner. Panic spread among the local citizens and tourists as soon as the information about the incident was received. The owner of Diveagar-based ‘Bhau Maruti Salunke Mahakali Water Sports’ and his associates started exploring the sea.
On learning that the students were drowning, Mahakali Water Sports staff and local people present at the beach immediately jumped into the sea. He started rescue operations and tried to pull out the drowning students. After much effort, all eight students were pulled out of the water, but by then they had died of suffocation.
On receiving information about the accident, Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Awati of Dighi Sagari Borli Panchtan Police Station immediately reached the spot with his police team. With the help of local villagers, the police took possession of all the bodies and shifted them to Borli Panchtan Primary Health Center for further medical and legal proceedings. The police are currently investigating the unfortunate incident.
