Explosion in Qatar’s largest gas plant: 13 including 12 Indians killed, 66 others injured

Doha, 22 June. A fire broke out after a massive explosion at the Barzan Gas Supply Plant located in the major Ras Laffan industrial area of ​​the Gulf country Qatar on Sunday night. 13 people died in this accident, out of which 12 were Indians, while 66 people were injured.

Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi confirmed the accident, denied any conspiracy

Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi confirmed the accident and said, ‘Those injured in the accident include citizens of India, Qatar, Tanzania, Pakistan, Guinea, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kenya and Nigeria.’

Saad al-Kaabi said it was an accident. There is no indication of any conspiracy or deliberate action. According to him, the production of the plant was completely stopped from December 2025 due to necessary repairs and it was restarted only two days ago. The investigation into the cause of the accident has been started.

Explosion occurred during resumption of operations in the terminal

The accident occurred when employees were trying to restart operations at the terminal after Iran’s bombing and blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, a fire broke out due to the explosion. It is being told that due to technical fault there were explosions and fire inside the gas plant. Search-and-rescue operation has been started on the spot.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force, along with civil defense teams, is conducting search operations for the missing people. The ministry also said that there is no threat to public safety due to any leak.

Qatar Energy has informed that an explosion and fire occurred at the Barzan Local Gas Supply Facility inside Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday night during the commencement of operations. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to control the fire and the fire was brought under control. However, rescue teams are still carrying out operations to search for the missing people.

Indian Embassy said – in touch with Qatari authorities

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Doha expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the accident by posting on Twitter. The embassy has also said that it is in constant touch with the Qatari authorities and all possible assistance will be provided to the families of the dead and injured.
