Farmers will get honor and cash reward, UP government brings new ‘Sugarcane Farmer Honor Scheme’

The Uttar Pradesh government has started a new initiative to encourage sugarcane farmers and make farming more profitable. ‘Sugarcane Farmer Samman Yojana’ will be implemented in all the sugarcane committees of the state from the year 2026-27. Under this scheme, farmers who produce sugarcane, prepare quality seeds, promote natural farming and supply more sugarcane to sugar mills will be honored. The aim of the government is not only to give awards but also to promote healthy competition and modern farming among farmers.

Certificate of honor will be given along with cash prize

Under the scheme, selected farmers will be provided cash awards, certificates of appreciation, shawls and mementos. Farmers securing first, second and third positions in each category will be given different prize money.

-First prize – Rs 10,000
-Second Prize – Rs 7,500
-Third Prize – Rs 5,000

The winning farmers will be honored in the general body meeting of their respective sugarcane committee. This will not only provide social identity to the farmers but will also inspire other farmers for better farming.

Which farmers will get the benefit of the scheme?

This scheme is for those farmers who have made significant contribution in sugarcane farming. Many important aspects will be taken into consideration during selection.

-Have done remarkable work in increasing the productivity of sugarcane.
-Produced and distributed high quality sugarcane seeds.
-Adopted natural and poison-free farming.
-Must have provided sugarcane in large quantity to sugar mills.
-Use of new technologies and innovations in farming.

Selection will be done in four main categories

The government has set four different categories for the selection of farmers so that those performing better in different areas of farming can be recognized.

1. Pedi Sugarcane Productivity Range

In this category, those farmers will be selected who have achieved the highest productivity on the basis of crop cutting.

2. Seed sugarcane production and distribution category

Farmers who contribute to the production and distribution of high quality sugarcane seeds will be honored in this category.

3. Natural Farming Category

Preference will be given to farmers adopting organic and chemical free farming.

4. Highest sugarcane supply category

The farmers who provide maximum sugarcane to sugar mills will be rewarded in this category.

Big step towards increasing the income of farmers

For the last few years, the state government has been emphasizing on increasing the income of sugarcane farmers and modernizing farming. Special attention is being given to scientific farming, reduction in production costs and improved productivity through various schemes launched recently. The new Samman Yojana is also being considered a part of this strategy, the objective of which is to motivate farmers for innovation and quality production.

Experts believe that respect and financial incentives will motivate farmers more to adopt new technologies. This will increase the productivity of sugarcane, benefit the sugar industry and also strengthen the rural economy.
