SL vs IND: These 5 key players of Team India will play Test in Sri Lanka for the first time

A two-match Test series will be played between Sri Lanka and India from August 15. This series is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. BCCI has announced a 15-member team for this tour. The command of the team will be in the hands of Shubman Gill, while KL Rahul will play the role of vice-captain.

The interesting thing is that the team includes many big and experienced players, but there are some star cricketers among them who have not played a single test match on Sri Lankan soil till now. Let us know about five such major players.

1. Shubhman Gill

Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has played 41 Test matches so far, but he has not got a chance to play Test in Sri Lanka.

Gill has played 21 Tests in India and 20 on foreign soil. In foreign Tests, he has performed brilliantly in England, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies. Now the opportunity to play Test in Sri Lanka for the first time will be a new challenge for him.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Powerful opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal can also be seen playing Test in Sri Lanka for the first time. He has played 29 Tests so far, out of which 15 have been in India and 14 abroad. Jaiswal has scored runs in Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies, but is still awaiting his Test debut in Sri Lanka.

3. Rishabh Pant

Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant is also included in this list. Despite playing 50 Test matches, Pant has not played a single Test in Sri Lanka till now. The special thing is that out of his 8 Test centuries, 6 have come abroad, which clearly shows that he is known for performing better in foreign conditions. Now big innings will be expected from him in Sri Lanka also.

4. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, who leads the Indian fast bowling attack, can also play Test in Sri Lanka for the first time. Bumrah has taken 234 wickets in 52 test matches so far. 13 of his 16 five-wicket hauls have come on foreign soil, but he has not yet got a chance to play Test in Sri Lanka. However, his availability will depend on fitness.

5. Mohammad Siraj

Fast bowler Mohammad Siraj is also among those players who have not yet played a Test match in Sri Lanka. Siraj, who has played 46 Tests, has shown his bowling talent in India, England, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies. He has 140 wickets in his name in Test cricket and all his five wicket hauls have come on foreign soil.
