FSSAI big action against 3 Baby Food products of Nestle India

FSSAI action against Nestle baby food products: New Delhi: Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated legal action against three products of Nestle India related to Baby Food for children in the case of alleged violation of regulations. On the other hand, the company has said that its products are complying with all applicable norms and standards.

FSSAI has taken action in cases related to 'Nan Excella Pro Stage-1', 'Lactogen Pro-1' and a follow-up formulation. The authority has objected to claims related to '5 HMOs' and 'whey protein' on Nan Excela Pro Stage-1. Similarly, questions have been raised about Lactogen Pro-1's claim of easily digestible whey protein.

Action after examination of online promotional material
According to the Food Vigilance Authority, promotional materials of products available on e-commerce platforms were examined. After this, an explanation was sought from Nestle India regarding these claims. The FSSAI says two products were found to be in violation of the Child Nutrition Rules, 2020. Apart from this, the rules relating to advertisement and promotion of such products under the 1992 Act are also referred to.

Biotin low in follow-up formula samples
In a separate case, the amount of biotin was found to be below the specified standard during testing of a follow-up formula sample. The sample also did not meet the criteria in retesting. The authority has registered three cases related to these cases.

Nestlé said- full compliance with regulations
Nestlé India has claimed that its respective products and their labels have been approved by the Expert Committee of FSSAI. According to the company, the claims on the label are based on scientific facts. The company said that it will continue to cooperate with the Food Safety Authority in this matter.
