Ghaziabad:Indirapuram police station arrested an accused of chain and mobile snatching after an encounter on Kanavanni Road late on Wednesday night. According to the police, in retaliation, the accused was shot in the leg, after which he was sent to the hospital for treatment. The arrested accused has been identified as Manu alias Manu Dajar, resident of Garima Garden, Sahibabad. His age is said to be around 23 years. According to the police, the Indirapuram police station team was checking suspicious persons and vehicles on Kanavani Road. Meanwhile, a young man was seen coming on a bike from Kanavani Pusta. When the police signaled him to stop, he turned the bike and started running away. Police allege that when chased, the youth opened fire on the police team. After this, the police retaliated in self-defense, in which he was shot in the leg.
Claims to have confessed to snatching two weeks ago
ACP Indirapuram Suryabali Maurya said that during interrogation, the accused has told about chain and mobile snatching by changing bikes and scooties in different areas of Delhi-NCR and Ghaziabad. Police claim that the accused has also informed about his involvement in an incident of chain snatching that took place in Indirapuram area about two weeks ago. According to the police, the accused told during interrogation that he used to spend the money received from snatching incidents by selling chains and mobiles on food and his hobbies. The police is now verifying the places and incidents mentioned by him.
Gun and stolen bike recovered
Police claimed to have recovered a pistol, a spent cartridge, a live cartridge, a stolen bike and a piece of yellow metal from the possession of the accused. Regarding the recovered bike, the police is also investigating from where it was stolen. More than 10 cases including robbery, snatching, theft and Arms Act are registered against the accused in various police stations of Delhi-NCR. The police is verifying his criminal history as well as collecting information about other cases related to him. After the encounter, the police took necessary action at the spot. After sending the injured accused to the hospital for treatment, the police has started further legal action in the case.
