Great news for railway employees, new instructions issued

News Desk. An important decision has come out for railway employees and their families. Railway Board has made a major change in the rules regarding employees getting jobs on compassionate grounds. This decision can benefit those dependents who were left out of the benefits of the old pension scheme due to the long duration of the appointment process.

The date of application will be considered as the beginning of recruitment.

According to the new instructions, the date on which the dependent first submitted the application for compassionate appointment will be considered as the date of commencement of the recruitment process. This means that if an employee’s family member had applied for a compassionate job on time after his demise, but the appointment was made later, he can now get the benefit under the old rules.

Benefit to those who applied before 2004

According to the new order of Railways, those dependents who had applied for compassionate appointment on or before December 31, 2003, can get relief. Even if his appointment took place after January 1, 2004, the way may be cleared for him to come under the ambit of the old pension scheme. Earlier the problem was that in compassionate appointment, no advertisement or recruitment notification was issued like normal recruitment. For this reason, there was difficulty in deciding the date for starting the recruitment process.

Pending matters can be resolved

After the new rule, it will become easier to settle many such cases where employees were not getting the benefits of old pension only due to confusion in dates. Railway administration will now review such cases considering the date of application submission.

Railway Board issued instructions

In the order issued by the Railway Board, all zones and related units have been instructed to implement the new rules. This is expected to provide great relief to the employees on compassionate appointment and their families.
