AHMEDABAD:
The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday dismissed AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal against an order that quashed a Central Information Commission direction seeking disclosure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s academic degree by Gujarat University.
A division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice D N Ray also upheld the Rs 25,000 cost imposed on Kejriwal by a single judge in March 2023.
The single judge had allowed Gujarat University’s challenge to the CIC’s 2016 direction and set aside the order requiring the university to provide information concerning Modi’s educational qualifications.
During the appeal, Kejriwal’s counsel, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, challenged the basis for the cost, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Gujarat University, opposed the plea. The division Bench found no ground to interfere with the earlier order and dismissed the appeal without imposing additional costs.
