Indian athlete Gulvir Singh has achieved remarkable success at the Commonwealth Games 2026. His success isn’t limited to winning a medal, but it’s also historic from India’s perspective. What he’s accomplished is something no one has ever done before at the Commonwealth Games. He also became the first Indian to win two separate athletics medals at a single Commonwealth Games. If such a feat isn’t history-making, then what is? But do you know where Gulvir Singh, India’s No. 1 long-distance runner, derives his strength? This power comes from his devotion to Lord Hanuman, which Gulvir Singh himself revealed after winning the bronze medal in the 5000-meter race.

Why is Gulveer Singh not happy after winning bronze?
Gulvir Singh revealed in an interview that he wasn’t overjoyed with winning the bronze medal in the 5000-meter race. He said his ambition was to hear his country’s national anthem on the grand stage of the Games. Gulvir Singh previously won a silver medal in the 10,000-meter race at the 2026 World Championships.
“They are human like us, we will defeat them.”
Gulvir Singh, a Naik Subedar in the Indian Army, also expressed his opinion on the African runners’ continued dominance in long-distance running. He said, “They’re human beings like us, so why can’t we beat them? That’s especially true when the government is spending so much on us, taking care of our facilities, providing us with world-class coaches and other support. Why can’t we beat them? We will.”
