Sanaa: At least seven people were killed and 30 others injured in missile and drone attacks by Houthi rebel groups on the Yemeni town of al-Mukha and its port, Yemeni government forces said late Sunday.
Yemeni government military spokesman Colonel Majid Abdullah al-Nujaily said in a statement on Monday that the strikes targeted several areas in and around al-Mukha, including civilian infrastructure, staff quarters, offices, power generation facilities and military bases.
According to the army, four security personnel and three civilians were killed in the attack, while 30 people were injured, mostly civilians. Most of the injured were treated and discharged from hospital.
Yemen’s military alleged the attack targeted civilian installations and violated international humanitarian law. The military said air defense units deployed in al-Mukha intercepted and destroyed 11 drones involved in the attack.
The military accused the Houthi group of targeting civilian areas and vital infrastructure and said operations against the Houthi threat would continue.
Meanwhile, Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for launching several ballistic missiles and drones targeting Saudi military bases and weapons depots in the Al-Mukha region.
The attack comes days after the Iran-backed Houthi group launched an assault on the Yemeni city of Marib, targeting residential areas and camps for displaced people.
