However, these vehicles undergo extensive customization before being handed over to the Army. The main objective of these changes is to increase the vehicle's endurance, capacity and performance in extreme weather manifold.
4×4 all-wheel drive for difficult terrain
Normal vehicles run on two-wheel drive technology, but military vehicles are mandated to have a 4×4 (four-by-four) drive system. This technology provides equal power to all four wheels of the vehicle in the snow of the mountains, sinking sand of the desert and deep mud formed after the rain. Due to this, the vehicle moves forward easily by maintaining a strong grip on the ground instead of slipping or getting stuck.
Special military green shade and camouflage design
The special green or olive green color seen on army vehicles is not just for identification. This color palette helps in camouflaging the vehicle in the surrounding vegetation and natural environment during war zone or patrolling. Apart from this, they do not use shining chrome or bright paint like normal cars so that the enemies do not immediately notice them.
Weapon mounts and special storage space
The trunk of a normal car accommodates only travel bags, whereas the interior layout of military vehicles is completely designed keeping in mind the tactical requirements. These have separate brackets and holders for safely locking assault rifles, wireless communication equipment, spare fuel canisters and heavy mission related items.
Bulletproof armoring for protection
Not every army vehicle is bulletproof, but special armor plating is done in vehicles deployed in sensitive and combat zones. The glass and body panels of these vehicles are made strong enough to withstand small arms firing and landmine shocks. This provides additional protective cover to the soldiers inside during dangerous situations.
Heavy-duty towing and recovery hooks
During military operations, many times vehicles get stuck or heavy guns and equipment have to be pulled. For this, heavy-duty tow hooks and strong chassis are provided in army vehicles. With their help, these vehicles not only move out on their own, but can also easily pull out other heavy vehicles of the convoy.
