Health Desk. Liver is a very important organ of our body, which works like removing harmful substances from the blood, helping in digestion and storing many essential nutrients in the body. When liver health deteriorates, sometimes the symptoms may seem normal in the beginning, but ignoring some of the changes in the body can prove costly.
1. Constant fatigue and weakness
If you feel tired, weak or lethargic all the time despite adequate rest, it may be a sign of a liver problem. However, there can be many other reasons behind this.
2. Yellowing of eyes and skin
Bilirubin may increase in the body if liver function is affected. Due to this, the white part of the eyes and skin start appearing yellow. This is considered the main sign of jaundice.
3. Swelling or heaviness in the stomach
In case of severe liver disease, the stomach may become swollen due to accumulation of fluid in the stomach. Persistent abdominal swelling, heaviness or abnormal enlargement should not be ignored.
4. Dark color of urine
If urine appears to be much darker in color than normal and this change persists, it may also be a sign of a liver or bile related problem.
5. Loss of appetite and nausea
In case of liver problem, symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea or feeling uncomfortable after eating can also be seen. If such symptoms persist for a long time, it is necessary to get tested.
When to contact a doctor?
Seeing any one of these symptoms does not always mean liver damage. Such symptoms can also be seen in many other health problems. But if symptoms like yellowing of eyes or skin, sudden swelling in the stomach, confusion or extreme weakness are seen, a doctor should be consulted immediately. With timely diagnosis and proper treatment, many liver problems can be prevented from becoming serious.
