IGI Airport: Gold powder worth lakhs found in chocolate boxes, 396 grams of gold seized at IGI Airport

Delhi. Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized 396 grams of smuggled gold hidden in chocolate packets from two passengers coming from Riyadh. Officials gave this information on Thursday. According to an official statement, both the passengers were stopped at the green channel on the basis of “spot profiling”. During investigation, the luggage of both the passengers was sent for X-ray examination.

The statement said that during scanning, “suspicious images” were seen inside the chocolate packets of the passengers, following which the packets were seized and sent for detailed examination due to the suspicion that gold powder was hidden.

The Customs Department said that a total of 396 grams of gold of 999.9 purity, hidden inside chocolate, was recovered from both the passengers. This gold was in two parts of 200 grams and 196 grams. The gold has been seized and a case registered against the passengers under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, the statement said.
