An important bilateral meeting took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. This is the first face-to-face meeting between the two top leaders after tension and conflict in the Middle East. During the meeting, sensitive global issues like regional security, trade relations and the ongoing blockade in the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be discussed in detail between the two countries.
Before leaving for Bishkek, the Iranian President had made it clear that Iran does not want war, but will respond appropriately to any aggression. On the sidelines of the conference, PM Modi also met Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, where it was agreed to increase mutual cooperation in sectors like defence, pharma, technology and education.
Along with this, bilateral talks between PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also proposed. The Prime Minister will also attend the opening ceremony of the 'World Nomad Games' at the special invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadir Japarov. The Iranian Embassy in India has confirmed the meeting and underlined the strong relations between the two countries.
