September 2026 is going to be a busy month for Indian cricket. With both the men's and women's teams playing white-ball cricket, multiple fixtures against visiting teams as well as the hosting of a continental trophy defense are in store for fans this September.
India Men Face Home Challenges Against Afghanistan and West Indies
India's men's team kick off their home international season with a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. Unusually, all three night matches will be played at one venue, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, on the dates of September 13, 15, and 17. This will provide a useful assessment of India's shortest-form combinations.
The 50-over format will then follow in the form of a multi-format tour by the West Indies. The leg of the tour which falls in September contains the first two matches of a three-match ODI series:
1st ODI (Sept 27): Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram (2:00 PM IST)
2nd ODI (Sept 30): Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati (2:00 PM IST)
The final ODI will be held in early October in Mullanpur, followed by a five-match T20I battle.
Defending Asian Games Glory in Japan
Besides their bilateral commitments, India will have the challenge of their men's team defending their gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Having qualified directly for the knockout stages, the men's team will face their quarterfinal on September 28 at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Shreyas Iyer will captain a strong 15-man squad with a blend of senior leadership and emerging explosive talent. Tilak Varma will be the vice-captain and Jasprit Bumrah the pace bowling leader alongside Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.
Women's Team Pursues Asia Cup Dominance and Continental Gold
India's women's cricket team has kicked off their September Women's T20 Asia Cup campaign in the UAE. Following a dominant opening win over Thailand in Dubai, the Women in Blue set off to secure the group's first place with key fixtures ahead:
India vs Hong Kong (Sept 3): Dubai International Cricket Stadium (8:00 PM IST)
India vs Pakistan (Sept 5): Dubai International Cricket Stadium (8:00 PM IST)
If they make it through, their Dubai stay will stretch on into the middle of September as they enter the knockout stages of the tournament. Straight after their Asia Cup campaign, Harmanpreet Kaur's team will head off to Japan to defend their title at the Asian Games. Qualified directly, the Indian women will be facing the host nation, Japan, in the first of their quarterfinals on September 17 at 5:30 AM IST, looking to make a semi-final appearance later in the month.
