Ishan Kishan anchors SRH chase with sensational 70
The hero of the chase was Ishan Kishan, who held his nerve with a sensational 70 off 47 deliveries, guiding his side home with maturity and control. He was well supported by Heinrich Klaasen, who struck a fluent 47 off 26 balls.
SRH kept the scoring momentum alive after early setbacks, with Travis Head departing cheaply for 6 and Abhishek Sharma falling for 26. However, Kishan ensured the innings never drifted, rotating strike smartly while also finding boundaries at regular intervals.
For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary picked up two wickets in his four overs. However, the bowling unit, already missing Jamie Overton, could not stop SRH’s controlled chase. Akeal Hosein was impressive, conceding just 21 runs in his three overs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad struggles again as CSK fall short of 200
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings posted a competitive total of 180/7 in 20 overs, but questions once again surrounded Ruturaj Gaikwad’s sluggish knock. The CSK skipper managed just 15 runs off 21 deliveries without a single boundary, struggling to find rhythm throughout the innings. His inability to accelerate became a major talking point and played a key part in CSK falling slightly short of a bigger total.
Dewald Brevis top-scored with 44, while Kartik Sharma added a valuable 32. Sanju Samson contributed a quick 27, but CSK never fully capitalized in the middle overs despite getting starts.
SRH’s bowling attack led by Pat Cummins proved decisive, as he picked up 3 wickets for just 28 runs.
Playoff picture tightens
With this result, SRH officially move into the playoffs alongside Gujarat Titans, strengthening their campaign at a crucial stage of the tournament.
For CSK, the equation has become complicated. They now face Gujarat Titans on May 21 in a must-win encounter while also relying on other results to stay alive in the race.
SRH, meanwhile, still have one league match left against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. A win there could push them into Qualifier 2, depending on other results, while a defeat may drag them into the Eliminator.
With the top four almost taking shape and only one spot still up for grabs among five contenders, the IPL 2026 playoff race is reaching a thrilling finish.
