Jana Nayagan Box Office Day 1: Vijay’s Farewell Film Opens At Rs 80.28 Crore Worldwide, Beats Leo And GOAT
Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM and actor Vijay’s last film Jana Nayagan had an excellent opening at the box office amid negative reception from critics and viewers. The much-anticipated movie opened on Tuesday and surpassed Vijay’s star power as he still holds a strong fan base.
Trade tracker Sacnilk reported that Jana Nayagan collected Rs 42.70 crore net in 13,067 shows in India on the opening day with the India gross at Rs 50.28 crore and Rs 30 crore overseas collection. That brings the worldwide Day 1 collection to Rs 80.28 crore.
The Tamil version had strong overall occupancy of 68.31%. Morning and night shows had the highest intake with an occupancy of 73.85% and 73.31% respectively, indicating the strongest fan support.
Jana Nayagan Beats Leo And GOAT
With its massive opening, Jana Nayagan has surpassed the Day 1 worldwide collections of Vijay’s previous blockbusters, Leo (Rs 75.53 crore) and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) (Rs 51.39 crore). Made on a reported budget of over Rs 300 crore, the film has delivered one of the biggest openings in Vijay’s career.
How Did The Film Perform Across India?
The film grossed approximately Rs 26-27 crore in Tamil Nadu, making it the state’s eighth-biggest opening ever. Karnataka contributed over Rs 10 crore, followed by Kerala with around Rs 5 crore. The Telugu states and the rest of India added nearly Rs 7.5 crore, including collections from dubbed versions.
Despite delays caused by certification issues and an online leak before release, Jana Nayagan managed to attract audiences in large numbers. The strong opening highlights Vijay’s unmatched box office pull, even under challenging circumstances, and positions the film among the biggest Kollywood openers in recent years.
