The budget airline has announced that passengers will see “no changes” to their current allowance, with the inclusion of 10kg of free hand luggage and a personal item to remain in place. The announcement comes as new measures set by the European Commission are due to come into force in 2027, which are designed to give passengers greater transparency around cabin baggage allowances. The new rules aim to make air fares and baggage allowances easier to understand and compare when booking, and will entitle every passenger to bring one personal item, such as a small bag or backpack, onboard free of charge.
The measures will also require airlines, travel agents and online booking platforms to be more upfront about pricing, with ticket prices inclusive of carry-on baggage to be clearly displayed at the start of the booking process, rather than as an add-on later.
Some airlines currently charge passengers an extra fee to bring hand luggage onboard, but Jet2 gives customers a free 10kg hand luggage allowance as standard, alongside a personal item.
In an update this week, the airline said passengers can continue to book with confidence knowing exactly what is included from the moment they book, without any hidden surprises or unexpected add-ons.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, said: “For Jet2 customers, these new rules change nothing because we have always believed in doing the right thing by customers when it comes to hand luggage.
“Holidaymakers should not have to pay extra or figure out complicated rules just to bring their essentials on board. We have always believed in making things simple, transparent and fair, so customers know exactly what they’re getting when they book.
“We welcome any move that helps customers better understand what is included in the price of their flight and make informed decisions when comparing airlines.
“It is another example of why customers continue to choose Jet2 in record numbers – because they know exactly what they’re getting when they book.”
The announcement comes after Jet2 made a price pledge to passengers earlier this year, becoming the first UK airline and tour operator to confirm it will not introduce surcharges on any booked flights or holidays to cover cost increases, such as jet fuel, assuring customers that the price they book is the price they will pay.
The airline confirmed it has removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays, even though the company has never previously applied them.
The price policy applies to all Jet2 flights and holidays booked through any channel, such as online, via mobile app, contact centre or an independent travel agent, meaning customers can lock in their flight or holiday price “with total confidence”.
Jet2 added that the policy does not include tourist taxes, which are payable in resort at the time of the holiday and are paid directly to the accommodation provider.
Commenting on the price policy at the time, Mr Heapy said: “Customers booking with Jet2 know that they are locking in their price without additional cost surprises later and we strongly believe that is the right thing to do by them.”
