The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed former captain and veteran batsman Kevin Pietersen as the specialist mentor of the men’s white-ball team. This new role of Pietersen will last till the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Former England captain and legendary batsman Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as an expert mentor in the team’s white-ball setup. This responsibility of Pietersen will remain till the 2027 ODI World Cup. His experience and expertise can play an important role in preparing the England team for the upcoming big tournament.
Kevin Pietersen will work with the England men’s team in One Day International and T20 International formats. Pietersen, who has long experience in international cricket as a player, will now guide the team players on strategy, batting and handling the pressure of big matches.
New responsibility will start from Australia tour
Kevin Pietersen’s first assignment with the England team will be the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia. After this he will also tour South Africa with the team. Apart from this, Pietersen will also join the team during the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand. The main objective of this decision of ECB is to prepare the team for a long time for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Pietersen will work with the team over the next 12 months to develop their players’ skills and develop their World Cup strategy.
The 2027 ODI World Cup will also be special for Pietersen, as the tournament is to be held in his birthplace South Africa. Zimbabwe and Namibia will co-host this global tournament along with South Africa.
Will be part of Brendon McCullum’s coaching setup
Kevin Pietersen will join the coaching group of England head coach Brendon McCullum. Names like Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Sarah Taylor and Jeetan Patel are also included in this setup. Pietersen has extensive experience in both modern cricket and franchise cricket. He has previously played the role of mentor with IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.
