KL Rahul Nearly Kisses Padikkal After Teammate’s Perfect DRS Advice

KL Rahul shared a heartwarming moment with Devdutt Padikkal after the latter’s timely DRS call helped save his wicket during India’s first Test against Sri Lanka in 2026.

He survived a close LBW call on day 04 of the 1st Test, after Devdutt Padikkal convinced him to take a DRS review.

After being saved, KL Rahul went straight to his partner and hugged him for saving his wicket at the crease. KL Rahul thought he was out when Prabath Jayasuriya struck him in front of the stumps in the 11th over of India’s second innings.

A sensational delivery from the left-arm spinner, bowling from round the stumps, where KL’s defence grazed the front pad of the India opener.

The Umpire gave it out, and Indian captain Shubman Gill, sitting in the dugout, thought it was out as well and was preparing to get into the field.

Even KL Rahul was ready to march off, but was stopped by his partner Devdutt Padikkal. He told the wicketkeeper-batter that his big forward lunge to defend the ball might save him.

Hesitantly, KL Rahul took the review, and the DRS review progressed, which looked out as well. The ball was pitching outside off, hitting in line, and then the predicted trajectory showed it going over the stumps.

The DRS showed the ball going just over the middle and leg stump, and KL Rahul was given not out.

KL Rahul let out a sigh of relief and went to give a tight hug to Devdutt Padikkal, who forced the former to take DRS.

It became one of the most memorable moments of the day, as India continued to extend the lead against the hosts.  However, KL Rahul got dismissed in the 15th over of the match by Prabath Jayasuriya.

Rahul switched to aggressive mode till that point and tried to hit Jayasuriya over mid-on, and ended up getting a leading edge as Milan Rathnayake took the catch.

India extended their lead in the first innings and will be aiming to post a mammoth score before declaring their innings.
