Kusal Mendis: Sri Lanka's Test cricket team underwent a major reshuffle on 8 October. Dhananjay de Silva has suddenly decided to step down as Sri Lanka's Test captain. The decision was taken by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board
In a meeting held at the board's headquarters on October 8, the SLC selection committee decided to appoint Mendis as the new captain. The decision was taken after Dhananjay de Silva resigned as captain. Mendis will play his first Test series as captain against Pakistan. A two-match Test series will be played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The Sri Lankan team will tour Pakistan and the first Test match will start on November 9 and the second Test match will start on November 17. All eyes will be on Kusal Mendis in this series. Kusal Mendis has played for Sri Lanka in all three formats. He made his Test debut in 2015. The following year, he made his ODI and T20 debut for Sri Lanka. He currently plays for Sri Lanka in all three formats. Recently, he scored a brilliant knock of 121 in the second match of the three-match ODI series against England.
Mendis has experience as a captain
Mendis will now captain Sri Lanka in all three formats. He has so far led Sri Lanka in 22 ODIs, winning 10 of them. Apart from this, the team has lost 10 matches and drawn two matches. Mendis has so far captained Sri Lanka in 3 T20 Internationals, leading the team to one win and two losses. He has scored 4,836 runs in 75 Test matches for Sri Lanka. He has also scored 5,160 runs in 159 ODIs and 2,694 runs in 109 T20 Internationals.
