Chief Secretary Shri S.P. Goyal stated that Lucknow has immense potential for the development of medical tourism. Given the availability of excellent government and private medical institutions in the city, Lucknow can be developed as a major medical tourism hub for patients from India and abroad. To achieve this, all relevant institutions and stakeholders need to work together to develop a coordinated strategy.
The Chief Secretary was addressing the second foundation day celebrations of the HealthCity Vistar Superspeciality Hospital and Trauma Center in Gomti Nagar Extension as the chief guest on Saturday. He congratulated the management and the entire team on the hospital’s successful completion of two years.
He stated that the hospital is providing quality and specialized medical services to a large number of patients. The continuous addition of new superspecialty services and cutting-edge medical technologies to meet the changing needs of patients is commendable.
Emphasis on making Lucknow a medical tourism hub
The Chief Secretary stated that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed significant development in the medical and health sectors in recent years. Lucknow is home to prestigious public institutions such as the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, and King George’s Medical University. State-of-the-art hospitals and medical facilities are also available in the private sector.
He stated that organized and well-planned efforts should be made to attract patients from the Gulf countries, South Asia, and other countries to Lucknow. This requires developing effective mechanisms by bringing together hospitals, the hotel and hospitality sector, travel agencies, relevant government departments, and other service providers.
The Chief Secretary stated that foreign patients should receive necessary assistance in visas, travel and accommodation, hospitalization, surgery and treatment, local transportation, and post-treatment services. This will make the entire treatment process simple, safe, and convenient for patients.
Medical Tourism Will Benefit Multiple Sectors
He stated that such a coordinated initiative will not only benefit the healthcare and hospital sectors, but will also boost several other sectors, including hotels, tourism, aviation, and transportation. This will increase foreign exchange inflows, thereby benefiting the economy of Uttar Pradesh and the country.
The Chief Secretary stated that with the expansion and modernization of healthcare services, there is immense potential for developing medical tourism as a major sector in Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow can play a significant role in this direction.
Inspected the Hospital
During the program, the Chief Secretary inspected the hospital. He reviewed the available medical facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, and patient services.
Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, Managing Director of HealthCity Vistar, stated that the hospital’s objective was to provide modern, quality, and specialized medical services to patients in Lucknow and surrounding areas. He stated that the hospital has taken several significant steps in this direction over the past two years, and the work to expand and upgrade healthcare services will continue in the future.
