New Delhi: Once again political rhetoric regarding Madrassas has intensified in West Bengal. After a survey conducted by the state government, orders have been given to close 252 unrecognized madrassas, while show cause notices have been issued to about 100 other institutions. Meanwhile, Minister Dilip Ghosh has raised serious questions on the functioning of madrassas and made many allegations.
Dilip Ghosh claimed that the alleged role of some madrasa teachers has come to light in the terrorist cases reported in the state. He also alleged that some terrorists coming from Bangladesh had taken shelter in madrassas. According to him, concerns have been raised regarding this issue earlier also, but no permanent solution has been found. The minister said that the government is looking at the matter seriously and action will be taken against institutions that do not follow the rules. He also clarified that there is no question of closing madrassas which are running as per government rules and necessary permissions.
What came out in the survey?
The survey was conducted by the Minority Affairs and Madrassa Education Department of West Bengal in all the districts of the state from the beginning of June. In this process, information about approval, available facilities, infrastructure and management system of government and private madrassas was collected. According to officials, during the investigation, many such institutions were found which did not have the necessary permission or did not have the necessary facilities. On this basis, orders have been issued to close 252 madrassas.
Show cause notice to about 100 madrassas
After the survey, notices have been sent to about 100 other madrasas and their answers have been sought. According to officials, further action will be decided after examining the replies and documents of these institutions. Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education Department Minister Kshudiram Tudu said that madrasas which have all the necessary approvals will not face any problem in continuing their work. According to him, the purpose of the survey was to clarify the status of authorized and unauthorized madrassas in the state.
The opposition also reacted
Dilip Ghosh said that many complaints have been coming forward regarding madrassas in the past also. He alleged that in some cases, people arrested on charges of extremist activities were found working as teachers in madrassas. At the same time, opposition Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh spoke against looking at all the madrassas from the same perspective in this entire matter. He said that the situation of different institutions should be seen on different basis.
