Delhi Metro: The bus service of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), which is considered the backbone of public transport in the capital Delhi, has been greatly affected. Due to the strike by DTC drivers, very few buses were seen on the roads for the second day on Wednesday as compared to normal days. As soon as there was a shortage of buses on the roads, lakhs of daily commuters turned towards Delhi Metro. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation i.e. DMRC used all its strength to ensure that the suddenly increased crowd of passengers reached their destination in a safe and convenient manner at the stations.
Metro took command and increased the frequency of trains.
When passengers could not find buses on the roads, huge queues started forming at metro stations since morning. Considering the seriousness of the situation, DMRC management immediately changed its operational plan. To avoid excessive pressure on the metro network, twenty additional train trips were run throughout the day. To control the increasing crowd in the system, a total of eight additional trains were introduced into service on different lines today. This prompt step reduced the congestion of passengers at stations during peak hours and allowed people to reach their offices and destinations without any major disruption.
This special service of additional trains will continue tomorrow also
Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, Delhi Metro has made it clear that this special arrangement will not be limited to today only. The same strong arrangements will continue from DMRC tomorrow i.e. on 17th September. Keeping in view the operational requirements, eight additional trains will run continuously on the tracks from 8 am to 8 pm tomorrow. DMRC says that their aim is always to provide reliable and safe service. Along with this, the Metro administration has appealed to the passengers to leave their homes only after planning their journey in advance in view of the current situation.
Movement of DTC bus drivers and their demands
On the other hand, due to lack of DTC buses on the roads of the capital, normal life has been greatly affected. The biggest impact of the strike is being seen on the operation of new electric buses. The protesting bus drivers say that they have been raising their voice regarding their basic problems for a long time but they are not being heard. The main demands of the drivers include a fair increase in daily wages, better medical facilities and timely overtime payment. Drivers also allege that in case of any breakdown or technical fault in the bus, they are imposed heavy fines, which should be withdrawn immediately.
The attitude of the troubled passengers and the union on the roads
Due to the strike, school going children, working people and elderly people had to face a lot of problems on Wednesday. People were seen waiting for hours at many bus stops and many passengers shared their problems on social media. At present, there are about six and a half thousand DTC buses in Delhi, due to which their operation has been affected, the entire road traffic system has been adversely affected. Meanwhile, President of DTC Employees Unity Union, Lalit Chaudhary has said that he fully supports the legitimate demands of the drivers. They say that till now no representative of the government has contacted them for talks, hence their peaceful agitation and decision of not running buses will continue in future also.
