Automobile desk: Indian automobile giant Mahindra has unveiled its much-awaited new lifestyle pickup Scorpio Lifestyler. The company has designed it keeping in mind those customers who are looking for a more powerful, rough-and-tough and adventure-friendly vehicle than a normal SUV. Based on the strong body-on-frame platform of Scorpio N, this pickup is all set to create a new wave in the Indian auto market.
Big challenge for Hilux and V-Cross
The lifestyle pickup segment in the Indian market has been dominated by Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross. However, their high prices (Hilux starts at around ₹32 lakh and V-Cross at ₹25.5 lakh) keep them a little out of reach for common customers. Mahindra claims that the Scorpio Lifestyler will have a starting price of less than ₹19.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company has currently showcased the design and features of this pickup, while its official sales are likely to start by April 2027. Mahindra is going to play a big bet in this segment through its aggressive pricing strategy.
Powerful exterior and rough-and-tough design
This pickup is the production model of the 'Global Pickup Concept' introduced in the year 2023. In India, it has been named 'Scorpio Lifestyler', while in international markets it will be sold only as 'Lifestyler'.
Talking about its design, it has:
- Bold LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs are provided at the front.
– Wide honeycomb grille with chrome finish and 'Scorpio' badging is available on the bonnet.
– Mesh-pattern air dam, vertical LED fog lamps and a strong skid plate at the bottom.
– The side profile includes a double-cab body, off-road tyres, dual-tone alloy wheels, thick side cladding and roof rails.
-The rear has C-shaped vertical LED tail-lights and large Mahindra branding on the tailgate.
You will get premium and tech-loaded experience in the cabin.
This vehicle, which looks tough and ready for off-roading from outside, feels very comfortable and luxurious from inside. A large portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system is provided on its dashboard. It also has many physical buttons for easy use during off-roading.
The vehicle is expected to get safety features like three-spoke steering wheel, digital driver console, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, surround-view camera and level-2 ADAS.
Powerful engine and 4WD capability
The Scorpio Lifestyler is likely to get the same reliable powertrain as the Scorpio N:
– 2.2-litre diesel engine: Which generates power of 175hp.
– 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine: Which gives power of 203hp.
The engine will be paired with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. To overcome difficult roads easily, it will be provided with advanced 4WD (four-wheel drive) system and different terrain modes.
Three special variants and global plans
Mahindra plans to offer this vehicle in three major variants—Valley, Reef, and Trail to suit different lifestyle needs. The 'Valley' variant is designed for daily city and highway use, the 'Reef' for outdoor lovers and the 'Trail' variant (desert-inspired beige) for extreme adventure off-roading.
Along with India, Mahindra will also export it to global markets like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Middle East and Latin America.
