Amritsar News: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a drug-free state, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has busted a cross-border drug smuggling network by arresting two individuals and seizing 10 kg of heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here today.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jasbir Singh alias Monu and Amritpal Singh alias Mota, both residents of Rangarh, Amritsar. In addition to recovering the heroin, police teams also confiscated their motorcycle, which they used for drug trafficking.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the investigation is underway to identify all the associates involved in the case and to trace the entire supply chain.
Acting on the basis of reliable information
Sharing details of the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that the police teams had received credible information that two persons belonging to a cross-border drug smuggling network had received a huge consignment of heroin, which they were going to supply in the Gharinda area.
10.03 kg heroin recovered
He said that acting on a tip-off, police teams established a blockade in the area and apprehended Jasbir alias Monu and Amritpal alias Motu while they were traveling on their motorcycle. He said that during a search, 10.03 kg of heroin was recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.
The SSP said that more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days as the investigation progresses. In this regard, FIR No. 339, dated 4/8/2026, has been registered at Police Station Gharinda, Amritsar Rural, under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
