Desk: Before the start of the festive season, Maruti Suzuki is facing the challenge of meeting the increasing demand for cars. The company had pending bookings of more than 2 lakh cars till October 1. To meet this demand of customers, the company has started increasing production. Maruti Suzuki's Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Partho Banerjee told in the monthly sales media briefing that till October 1, the company had more than 2 lakh pending bookings. That means customers have booked the cars, but are still waiting for delivery.
The company's dealer network had about 17 days' worth of stock till October 1. In such a situation, it will be important for Maruti to maintain supply amid increasing demand in the coming festive season. According to Partho Banerjee, it is not necessary for the company to just make more cars. Equal attention will have to be paid to both the quality of cars and their availability. Keeping this in view, Maruti Suzuki is also increasing production from the new plant started in Kharkhoda, Haryana. Brezza is currently being manufactured on the new production line of this plant. The company says that due to the new plant and increasing output, the supply chain is going to be much better in the coming time.
Let us tell you, Maruti Suzuki has also seen a good growth in domestic sales in September 2026. The company sold a total of 1,91,794 units including sales made by other vehicle manufacturers. This is about 30 percent more than September 2025.
Maruti Suzuki's export business was also very strong. In September, the company sent 44,219 vehicles abroad, which is about 5 percent more than last year. In the first half of April to September, the company's exports reached a record level of 2.32 lakh units. There was an increase of 12.2 percent on annual basis. According to the company, Maruti's share in the total car exports from India during April to August was 52 percent. The company claims that during this period it sent more cars abroad than the total export number of the remaining 17 car manufacturers of the country.
Brezza 2026 has a major share in Maruti's pending bookings. The bookings of this SUV have crossed the mark of 95,000 units and are expected to cross 1 lakh soon. According to the company, more than 15,000 units of Brezza were sold in September. In view of the increasing demand, its production is being continuously increased at the Kharkhoda plant. While booking Brezza, customers had different preferences regarding powertrain. About 38 percent of the total bookings were for the turbo variant, 40 percent for the underbody CNG version and 22 percent for the 1.5-litre petrol variant. At the same time, the updated Baleno also recorded sales of 25,000 units in the first month of its launch.
According to Maruti Suzuki, sales of entry-level hatchbacks increased by 86 percent in the first half. The mid-size hatchback segment also grew by 40 percent. SUV segment sales increased by 56 percent. This means that the demand for the company's cars is not limited to just one segment, rather the interest of customers has increased from small cars to SUVs.
Now the biggest focus for the company is to convert increasing bookings into timely delivery. For this, work is being done to increase production and improve supply in the new plant.
