Suzuki is known to be developing a new, affordable electric car for markets including India. It will be a small electric hatchback and a global product. Recently, it was spied testing overseas. Based on the spy image, we have digitally imagined the design of this upcoming model.
This electric car is based on the Vision e-Sky concept showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The concept had a futuristic design, based on Suzuki’s new-age ‘Unique, Smart, Positive’ philosophy. The production form, from what is visible in the spy shot, tones this down.
The Vision e-Sky-based EV will be a compact, urban electric car. Size will be one of its biggest strengths. The concept measured 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width, and had a height of 1,625mm. The production model seems to adhere to these dimensions. Like the vision car, the test mules also had extremely small overhangs at both ends.
This EV has a tallboy design and an upright stance. It has sleek LED headlamps, a closed-off grille section, and a bold front bumper with sleek air intakes for battery cooling. The test mules were spotted with regular steel wheels. However, the production model will come with aero-optimized alloy wheels. Like the concept, the production car will also have a dual-tone colour scheme with the roof finished in White. The side view mirrors are regular-sized units in these images, unlike the concept’s sleek ones.
This model will be an electric Kei car and will be launched in multiple global markets before being brought to India. Suzuki UK boss David Kateley has already confirmed that the UK launch will happen in the not-so-distant future. India launch is likely to commence later.
It will be underpinned by Suzuki’s newly-developed K-EV platform. This dedicated EV platform ensures maximum room inside. Details of the battery options remain undisclosed. We expect the car to come with a 29kWh unit capable of delivering a range of around 270km per charge. When brought to India, Maruti Suzuki will ensure high levels of localisation in the production of this EV, particularly in its platform.
The EV will have a modern cabin design and a decent array of features. We expect dual screens (digital driver’s display and infotainment system), ADAS, 360-degree camera and more. The dedicated EV platform will ensure maximum space and comfort inside.
Now, the Spresso is the smallest car in Maruti Suzuki India’s lineup. It is 3565mm long, 1520mm wide, and has a height of 1564mm. At 3.3 metres, the upcoming EV will be shorter than the Spresso. It will, in fact, sit somewhere in between the Tiago.EV and MG Comet, in size.
When launched, this Maruti EV will compete primarily with the Tiago.EV. It is worth noting that Tata Motors recently gave the Tiago a major update that gave it more features and made it a more compelling choice overall. Tata’s electric hatchback continues to be offered with 19.2kWh and 24kWh. 29kWh would place the Maruti EV in a competitive position.
Interestingly, Tata’s 24kWh unit claims to deliver more range than the Maruti EV’s expected 270km. It claims 293km per charge. The Tiago.EV measures 3,825 mm in length, 1,684 mm in width and 1,562 mm in height. Clearly, the Maruti EV is smaller.
The MG Comet will be another possible rival. It is now available with a 17.3 kWh battery pack. The range is lesser as well. The vehicle itself is smaller than the Maruti EV and measures 2,974 mm in length, 1,505 mm in width and 1,640 mm in height. Clearly, Maruti’s upcoming electric car is aimed squarely at the Tiago.EV.
The Vision e-Sky concept has a futuristic design. It previews the carmaker’s next-generation urban electric vehicle family. The front fascia gets a matrix-style LED light bar, LED headlamps and C-shaped LED DRLs. Chunky wheel arches, clean surfaces, flush-type door handles, a flat nose and tail, short overhangs are all parts of its design. The cabin too looks modern and tech-heavy on the concept. It has a Blue-purple-Beige colour scheme. It remains to be seen how much of this would make its way into the production model.
