Mitchell Starc broke James Anderson's world record

Delhi: Mitchell Starc bowled such lethal bowling in the second test against Bangladesh that he took his name further up in the record books. By dismissing Shadman Islam for a platinum duck on the very first ball of the match, Starc took the record of taking the most wickets in the first over of a Test match. Before this match, Starc and James Anderson were tied with this feat 8-8 times, but after taking the wicket of Shadman, Starc created a new world record by taking a wicket in the first over for the 9th time. With this, he once again proved how dangerous his speed and swing can be for the batsmen at the beginning of Test cricket.

Stark's havoc did not stop here. He bowled only 10 overs in the first innings and took 6 wickets for just 12 runs with 6 maidens, due to which the entire Bangladesh team was reduced to just 64 runs. Starc dismissed Shadman Islam in the first over, while in the second over, Tanjeed Hasan and captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto were sent to the pavilion on two consecutive balls. After this, Mominul Haq and Liton Das also became victims of Starc. He completed his 5 wicket haul in just 22 balls and in about 42 minutes. The sixth and last wicket of the innings was of Shoriful Islam. Starc's stormy bowling can be gauged from the fact that he gave only 12 runs in 10 overs while bowling 6 maidens. Apart from them, Pat Cummins took 3 wickets and Josh Hazlewood took 1 wicket.

Starc now leads the list of bowlers taking most wickets in the first over of a Test match with 9 wickets. James Anderson is in second place with 8 wickets, while Ray Lindwall, Richard Hadlee and Kapil Dev have achieved this feat 7-7 times. The special thing is that Bangladesh had earlier made a big upset by defeating Australia in Test cricket and now after seeing this stormy bowling of Starc, the fans on social media are associating it with taking revenge of the same defeat. Although such comparisons in cricket are just a reaction of the fans, but it is certain that Starc put such pressure on Bangladesh at the beginning of the second Test, which made it very difficult for the visiting team to make a comeback in the match.
