Mithila Palkar credits Kalyani for Bhooth Bangla role

Mumbai: Actress Mithila Palkar has revealed that she landed a role in the upcoming film Bhooth Bangla thanks to a recommendation from Kalyani Priyadarshan—despite the two never having met in person.

The film, directed by Priyadarshan, features a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. It released on April 17 and is being described as a big-budget entertainer.

“We have not met,” says Mithila

Speaking about how she was cast, Mithila shared that her connection with Kalyani has been purely through mutual admiration rather than personal interaction.

“We have not met! That’s the most beautiful part,” she said, adding that despite repeated attempts to meet in cities like Mumbai and Chennai, their schedules never aligned.

According to Mithila, their bond developed through appreciation of each other’s work. “We have seen each other’s work and admire it. That’s how we are friends,” she explained.

Recommendation based on trust

Mithila revealed that Kalyani recommended her name to her father, Priyadarshan, purely based on her confidence in Mithila’s suitability for the role.

“She trusted that I’ll fit the role and knew that her father was looking to cast someone. That’s a big deal for me, and I am really grateful,” Mithila said.

Responding to the actress’s Instagram post, Kalyani modestly downplayed her role, writing that she had only expressed admiration as a fan and did nothing more. Mithila described the gesture as “sweet” and appreciated Kalyani’s support for fellow actors.

Career momentum in 2026

Bhooth Bangla marks Mithila’s second film release in 2026. Earlier this year, she appeared in Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos, where her intentionally awkward dance sequences became a talking point among audiences.

Recalling the experience, Mithila shared that comedian Vir Das encouraged her to perform off-beat dance moves, which she initially found challenging due to her musical inclination.

Reflecting on viral beginnings

March 2026 also marked a decade since Mithila’s viral “cup song” video, which first brought her into the spotlight.

Looking back, she said she had no expectations when she uploaded the video in 2016. “I didn’t even know what virality meant back then. I just uploaded it for fun,” she said, adding that the overwhelming response changed the course of her career.

The video led many to initially recognise her as a singer, though she clarified her primary ambition was always acting.

Exploring diverse roles ahead

Mithila is now set to appear in the Telugu web series Super Subbu on Netflix, where she will portray a village character—marking a departure from her usual urban roles.

She expressed excitement about experimenting with different characters and also reiterated her desire to take on a negative role in the future. “I would love to play someone with an innocent face who creates all the problems,” she said.

Conclusion

Mithila Palkar’s journey—from a viral internet sensation to securing roles in major productions—continues to evolve. Her casting in Bhooth Bangla, facilitated through mutual respect within the industry, highlights the growing importance of creative recognition and professional trust in shaping careers.
