MSP Procurement: Big relief for farmers, approval for purchase worth Rs 5,547.99 crore in three states including UP

New Delhi. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved procurement of Rs 5,547.99 crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27. According to the government, the objective of this decision is to provide protection to farmers in case of fall in market prices and ensure remunerative prices for their produce. Especially pulses and oilseed producers will benefit from this.

Purchase worth Rs 3,992.57 crore in UP

Uttar Pradesh has the largest share in the sanctioned amount. A total of Rs 3,992.57 crore will be procured in the state. Under this, 4,66,000 metric tons of tur will be purchased at MSP for Rs 3,937.70 crore and 6,250 metric tons of moong will be purchased at MSP for Rs 54.87 crore.

Procurement of soybean, moong and sunflower in Karnataka

Procurement of Rs 1,107 crore has been approved under PSS for Karnataka. In this, 1,15,500 metric tons of soybean will be purchased for Rs 659.27 crore. Whereas 38,250 metric tons of moong will be purchased for Rs. 335.83 crore and 13,413 metric tons of sunflower will be purchased for Rs. 111.90 crore.

Purchase worth Rs 448.42 crore in Telangana

Procurement worth Rs 448.42 crore has been approved under PSS in Telangana. In this, 62,000 metric tons of soybean will be purchased for Rs. 353.90 crore and 10,766 metric tons of moong will be purchased for Rs. 94.52 crore at MSP.

Payment to farmers directly into bank account

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that with this decision, farmers will get financial security amid fluctuations in market prices. It will also help in promoting domestic production of pulses and oilseeds. He said that the procurement system would be kept transparent and farmers would be paid for their produce on time directly into their bank accounts. According to the Central Government, under PSS, notified pulses and oilseeds are procured from eligible farmers when the market prices fall below the notified MSP during the specified period.

The Union Minister said that the welfare of farmers, increasing their income and strengthening self-reliance in the agricultural sector are among the priorities of the government. The proposed purchase of pulses and oilseeds at MSP in the three states will provide price protection to the farmers in the event of a fall in market prices.
