Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail got a new speed, indigenous high-speed train will run initially!

India and Japan have made significant progress on the much-awaited Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project. In recent talks between the two countries, it has been agreed to take forward the project in a time-bound manner and start the high-speed rail service for passengers as soon as possible. The project is considered a historic initiative towards India’s railway modernization and future transport infrastructure.
During the meeting, Japan confirmed that it will make its next-generation E10 series Shinkansen trains available to India in the early 2030s. The train is currently in the development stage and is not yet ready for commercial operation. The E10 series is being developed with state-of-the-art technology, better safety standards, energy efficiency and more passenger comfort.
India and Japan have agreed on an interim arrangement since the E10 train will be available for a few more years. Under which the first phase of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will be operated by Indian high-speed trains. This will not cause unnecessary delay in the inauguration of the project and passengers will be able to get high-speed rail service as per schedule.
Significant progress has also been recorded in the construction work of the project. Construction of pillars, viaducts, stations and other infrastructure is going on rapidly in many parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra. According to officials, the first section of the project is targeted to be commissioned in the year 2027. For this, the construction agencies are trying to complete the work within the stipulated time frame.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project is India’s first bullet train project. It is being developed on an approximately 508 km long corridor, which includes modern stations, state-of-the-art signaling system and world-class safety standards. After the completion of the project, the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be significantly reduced as compared to the present, which is expected to give a big boost to trade, industry, tourism and regional development as well.
Japan is providing technical support as well as financial support in this project. Shinkansen technology is considered one of the safest and most reliable high-speed rail systems in the world. The use of this technology in India will develop new technical capacity in the railway sector and also provide a strong base for other high-speed rail projects in the future.
India and Japan also reiterated that both countries will work with full commitment to progress the project as per the stipulated time frame. The initial operation by Indian high-speed trains and later the strategy of incorporating the E10 series Shinkansen is an indication that both countries are moving fast towards the common goal of completing the project without delay and developing a world-class high-speed rail network in India.
