The condition of Mumbai worsened in the first rain, from roads to railway tracks submerged in water; 24 trains canceled

The condition of Mumbai has worsened in the first monsoon rains. Rain has created a problem in Mumbai. Roads, underpasses, subways and railway tracks are filled to the brim with water. Life has been badly ruined in various parts of the city. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in Mumbai for Wednesday and has issued a yellow alert. There is a possibility of rainy season continuing in Mumbai as well as in the entire state, due to which yellow and orange alerts have been issued for various parts of Maharashtra.

Everyday life disrupted due to waterlogging

Heavy rains till Tuesday have caused heavy waterlogging in many areas of Mumbai. Walking on roads has become difficult and commuters are facing traffic disruptions as civil authorities have imposed restrictions on movement in flood-affected areas. The subway in Everard city is filled with water. It has been closed to the general public. Only water is visible in the pictures of various areas of the city including Saki Naka metro station area.

‘Could not find a temporary solution to the problem’

Talking about the situation of Andheri underpass, BMC Municipal Corporation official Hrithik said that we have not been able to find any temporary solution to this serious problem of water logging. Our officers are deployed here to ensure that vehicles do not pass through here. But some rickshaw pullers still try to get their vehicles out of there. A rickshaw was also stuck in water. The driver’s life was in danger. Two of our officers helped him out.

BMC official Robert said that we are trying our best to ensure that no vehicle goes inside the underpass. We are trying to save as many people as possible.

Rail service continued

BMC said all subways remained operational except the water-logged Andheri underpass. Whereas rail services have been running normally across the city. Despite heavy rain, Western Railways confirmed that suburban trains continued to run normally on main routes including the Harbor Line and Churchgate during the morning rush hour. However, due to overnight rain, various parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have been waterlogged.

How much rain did it rain in Mumbai?

According to BMC rainfall data, the city received an average of 56 mm rainfall between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm on June 23. At the same time, 23 mm rainfall has been recorded in the eastern suburbs and 33 mm rainfall has been recorded in the western suburbs. Between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm, widespread rainfall occurred at various places in the western suburbs.
