Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has seen brilliant performance in Diamond League 2026. Neeraj made the best throw of the season. But still he finished second. This was Neeraj's first competition after Commonwealth Games 2026. Neeraj made an impressive start to the competition with a throw of 83.54 meters in the first round. Then in the second round, he turned in a season's best performance of 88.05m to finish second in the javelin, missing out on the title by just 9cm. Rumesh Tharanga of Sri Lanka won the first position with a throw of 88.14 meters. This is his fifth consecutive victory in any tournament.

Neeraj's best performance after 14 months
Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage was the biggest challenge for 28-year-old Neeraj in the Lausanne Diamond League tournament. Neeraj Chopra had a poor start to the competition, with a throw of just 83.54m in his first attempt. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage took the lead with a throw of 85.99 meters in his first attempt. However, Neeraj made a strong comeback in his second attempt and finished top with a throw of 88.05m, his best throw of the season. Rumesh, meanwhile, managed a throw of 87.06m in his second attempt, which was also Neeraj's best throw of the season, having previously thrown 85.83m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Rumesh won the first position
Rumeshpathirage turned the tide in his third attempt. Pathirage threw the javelin 88.14 meters. Which was just 8cm longer than Neeraj's throw. With this brilliant performance, he again won the first position. Neeraj threw 83.72 meters in the third round. Neeraj fouled in the fourth round. So in the fifth round he decided not to throw. His sixth attempt was only 82.15 meters. Meanwhile, Rumesh fouled in the fifth and sixth attempts. However, Rumesh's third throw was decisive. 23-year-old Rumesh Pathirage has been in excellent form this season and continued his impressive form in Lausanne to finish first. Meanwhile, Andersen Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 86.69 meters. He reached the distance in his sixth and final attempt. It was his best throw of the tournament.

Earlier, Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland with a throw of 85.83m. However, Neeraj was not in the best form in this tournament as well. Rumesh of Sri Lanka had won the gold medal by throwing 89.75 meters in the same event.
