Will the name of RCB change?
A consortium led by Aditya Birla Group has acquired 100 per cent stake in RCB from United Spirits Limited (USL) for Rs 16,706 crore. The consortium includes Times of India, Bolt Group and Blackstone. However, the good news for the fans is that even after the new owner takes over, RCB's name will not change.
According to reports, when the new owner of the franchise, Aryaman Birla, was asked about the matter, he clearly said, 'Royal Challengers Bangalore will not change its name. It's a big brand and we love it.' Earlier, his sister, Ananya Birla had also said that the name of the team would not be changed.
Won the first title after 18 years
RCB is one of the eight franchises participating in the IPL since 2008. But, despite having players like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers in the team, the team had to wait 18 years to win their first title. RCB finally won their first IPL trophy in 2025. Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB won their second consecutive title in 2026. RCB has fans all over the world and has become a brand.
Aryaman Birla is also a cricketer
Aryaman Birla, son of Aditya Birla Group owner Mangalam Birla, was himself a cricketer. He started his cricket career in 2017. He has played nine first-class matches and four List-A matches for the Madhya Pradesh cricket team. He was also part of the Rajasthan Royals team in the IPL. In 2018, Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 30 lakh. However, Aryaman took an indefinite break from cricket in 2019 citing mental health issues. Now he is working as a professional entrepreneur.
