New twist in Supreme Court on Jacqueline Fernandes’ petition in ₹200 crore money laundering case

Knews Desk- A new twist has emerged during the hearing in the Supreme Court in the alleged ₹200 crore money laundering case involving actress Jacqueline Fernandes. A judge hearing the case recused himself from hearing the petition, after which the process of taking the case forward was affected.

This case is related to the money laundering case involving alleged swindler Sukesh Chandrashekhar, in which the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also made Jacqueline Fernandes an accused. The actress had challenged the lower court order which had approved the process of framing charges against her.

During the hearing in the Supreme Court, it was argued on behalf of the petitioner that he has been wrongly implicated in this case and there is no concrete evidence against him. However, citing earlier observations, the court said that this case is currently at the stage of framing of charges, hence the detailed investigation will take place in the trial court only.

The Court also clarified that the observations made by the High Court will not affect the trial process and the petitioners can again exercise legal options after the charges are framed. Meanwhile, Justice Mishra recused himself from the petition, due to which the case will now be heard before a new bench. Due to this the legal process has moved forward for some time.

It is worth noting that this case has been under consideration in the investigating agencies and the court for a long time and has taken many turns. Jacqueline Fernandes has consistently rejected the allegations against her and claims that she has been wrongly implicated in the case. Now the further hearing in this case will be conducted by a new bench, after which the further legal direction will be decided.
