Because, online payment is not possible without the internet. But do you know that it will be possible to make UPI transactions without the net this time! A media report said that a new feature is being brought to UPI now. With the help of that feature, offline transactions can be made effortlessly.
How will this transaction be done? It is said that users will be able to make transactions at offline merchant terminals through ‘near-field communication’ technology. This is a type of short-range wireless technology. Which works faster and more securely than Bluetooth at close distances. However, it is known that a maximum limit of 2,000 taka will be set for transactions in this method. And for this, money will first have to be deposited in a digital wallet called ‘UPI Lite’ on the device. They will be able to send money using that balance without a UPI PIN in places where there is no internet connection or at offline terminals.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, money could be sent using UPI without internet. By dialing *99# or using services like UPI 123Pay. But that was a very limited method. Even the current offline methods require some kind of network. But in the case of the new UPI feature, that may not be necessary either.
Incidentally, the ‘Unified Payments Interface’ has taken the world by storm in the world of digital payments. This innovative technology developed by India is currently being used by many countries of the world. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognized UPI. This international organization has acknowledged that India’s UPI is currently the world’s largest real-time payment system.
