BCCI Annual General Meeting: The 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will be organized on 18 September 2026 at the board office in Mumbai. During this time, preparations are being made to add a new and historic chapter on the map of Indian cricket. The proposal to grant associate membership of BCCI to the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been included in the important agenda of this meeting. For this meeting, BCCI has sent a notice to all the member associations and sought their opinion.
The noise of cricket will echo in Andaman and Nicobar also
Among the eight union territories of the country, teams from areas like Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh continuously play in BCCI domestic tournaments. But Andaman and Nicobar, which has more than 800 islands, does not yet have any official team recognized by BCCI. The local Andaman and Nicobar Cricket Association has been overseeing only regional competitions. This will be the first time when the country’s largest cricket organization is considering formally taking control of the cricket infrastructure of this group of islands.
The way will open to play in big tournaments
If this proposal is approved in the AGM, it will have many big benefits. Andaman and Nicobar will have its own official team, which will get a chance to play in national tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. At the same time, BCCI will develop cricket academy, coaching facilities and stadiums here, through which local players can be improved. Currently, 38 teams participate in BCCI’s domestic tournaments, which may increase after this decision.
Decision will be taken on these big issues also
During this meeting, the final decision will be taken on the nomination of the official representing India in the International Cricket Council. Apart from this, two representatives will be elected by the General Body for the IPL Governing Council. At the same time, a representative of the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) will also be formally included in the IPL Governing Council.
